This one’s pretty self explanatory. But if you haven’t seen these five movies, now really is the time.
When I started making this list – the first movie that came to mind was Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. And I’m telling you, if you haven’t seen it, you’ve been missing out and it’s been on Netflix the whole time. This movie follows Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller as he and his friends take a day off of school to explore Chicago. John Hughes does it again with a comedy that breaks down the fourth wall and leaves you wanting to take a day off yourself. Personally, I could recommend this movie for the parade scene alone. If you’ve seen it, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The next on this list, I fell in love with on a plane to Victor, New York and it’s been a go to ever since. Table 19 is a newer release starring Anna Kendra who attends the wedding of her oldest friend after being relieved of her maid of honor status. Kendrick finds herself seated in the back at a table full of misfits who turn out to be exactly who she was looking for in this turbulent time of her life. I recommend this movie if you’re looking for something goofy and cute that tugs on your heart strings a little bit. You can find this one on Amazon Prime Video!
This is a personal favorite of mine as I’ve always been a huge Amanda Bynes fan (before she went off the rails for a bit). She’s The Man, in my opinion, is arguably one of the better Rom/Coms I’ve seen just for the humor factor alone. Amanda Bynes’ soccer team gets cut at her school, so she decides to pose as her twin brother and try out for a spot on the boys’ team instead. You can find this baby Hulu, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be quoting it for years to come.
This next one is the definition of an oldie, but a goodie as it was made in 1985. The Goonies made it on this list as it has everything you could ask for in a feel good movie: adventure, mystery and fun characters you want to root for. The Goonies features a group of young boys that are trying to save their homes from being destroyed to build a new country club in their area. To do so, they set out to find a lost treasure that could help them save their neighborhood. You can find The Goonies on Prime Video and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Last, but certainly not least, we have Edge of Seventeen. This is a new release on Netflix that I had the privilege of seeing in theaters when it premiered. This movie follows the brilliant Hailee Steinfeld as she navigates the awkwardness of high school with her best friend Krista. When Krista starts to date her star of the football team brother, Steinfeld sets out on her own journey to self love. Did I mention the hysterical Woody Harrelson plays her father too? What more could you ask for in a movie?
Well, that’s all she wrote folks (for now). I figured I could also include almost any Disney movie on this list, but maybe I’ll save that for a future blog post. I hope you enjoyed this little break from reality, and I hope you take the time to consume some feel good content during this crazy time.
